Let Your Voice Be Heard!

I took this photo last summer as I was walking along Lake Michigan.  It spoke to me.  It reminded me that if you want to make a difference in the world, you have to put yourself out there.  You have to be willing to fail.  You have to be willing to succeed.  But more importantly, you have to be passionate about what you are doing.  Passionate enough to speak out for things that you believe in. Passionate enough to inspire positive change.

If you have not heard yet, The School Access to Emergency Epinephrine Act was introduced Thursday in Washington, D.C. by U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) and U.S. Senator Mark Kirk (R-IL).  It is now officially recognized as bill number S.1884.  Many of you have asked for updates regarding the progress of this legislation and are passionate about showing your support of this bill.

Being new to the political arena, I asked how can we best show our support of bill S.1884. It was suggested that each of us write a letter, call, or even stop by our local representative’s office to show our support.  They count every interaction they receive about each bill and will actually read letters that are not form letters.  So, there are many ways to support this bill!

Below are the links to your representatives:

I think the more personal you can make your letters, the better!  Try to keep your stories as short as you can but as powerful as you can.  If you write to the House of Representatives, you can encourage them to co-sponsor the Senate bill S.1884 as the House has not presented a bill from their end yet.  If you contact the Senate, you can thank them for presenting the bill and encourage them to do what they can to get it passed QUICKLY!

Our nation’s allergic children are at risk while we wait for this bill to pass.

So let’s get out there, be passionate and let our voices be heard!

Please forward this link to your friends and family so that as many people as possible have the opportunity to make a difference. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Leave a comment to share how you showed your support!

P.S.  I know you are good at showing your support because you’ve been reading my posts, “Liking” The Allergist Mom on Facebook, following TheAllergistMom on Twitter and voting my blog into the top spot in the Circle of Moms Top 25 Food Allergy Blogs!

Thank you, friends!

This is so important. I am so thankful there is legislative visibility and push. Thanks for the information.

  2. This may seem like an obvious question, but what will the legislation actually provide? In my experience, you can’t just go on the title and expect it to be meaningful. They are often very misleading or don’t give the whole picture.
